Why we started this
Down to Hike was built because most outdoor content online is written by people who have never actually been cold and lost on a Welsh hillside. We fill the gap with honest, practical content from real UK terrain.
Based across the UK, we’ve tested gear in the Brecon Beacons, navigated in poor visibility in the Peak District, and spent too much money on tents in the Cairngorms. Everything on this site comes from genuine field experience.
Whether you’re planning your first Munro, working towards a Mountain Leader award, or just trying to find a waterproof jacket that won’t bankrupt you — you’re in the right place.
"We write the guides we wished existed before we got soaked at 800 metres."
What drives us
How we approach everything
Honest first
If gear isn't good, we say so. Affiliate links don't change our opinions — they fund the content, nothing more.
UK terrain, always
Our content is grounded in UK conditions — changeable weather, open access land, British mapping, and MLTUK qualifications.
Written by walkers
No outsourced content farms. Every guide is written by someone who's stood on the summit, read the contours, and packed the bag.
